Background:

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), premier organization of Indian industry - manufacturing and services - works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative processes.

CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation, playing a proactive role in India’s development process. Founded over 108 years ago, it is India’s premier business association, with a direct membership of over 4800 companies from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs and indirect membership of over 50,000 companies from 253 national and regional sectoral associations.

With 31 offices in India, 15 overseas in  USA, UK, South Africa, Singapore, China, Malaysia, France, Italy, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Japan, Russia, and institutional partnerships with 216 counterpart organisations in 94 countries, CII serves as a reference point for Indian Industry and the international business community.

CII  proactively interacts with the Government and Non Government organisations in the GCC States and successfully organized the first ever formal economic dialogue between India and GCC through GCC-India Industrial Conference, which was held in Mumbai earlier this year.  CII has institutional arrangements with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the GCC States and attaches particular importance to the development of economic and industrial cooperation with India.

In order to provide an opportunity to Professionals, entrepreneurs and businessmen, of Maharashtrian Origin to understand the activities of CII and learn more on the emerging opportunities in GCC and India, an informal session of discussion is planned with Mr. A C Patankar Principal Advisor to CII,  who has over 35 years industry experience, including international business.  The session would be on Thursday 10th June, 2004, evening 5 o clock  till 7 o clock in Dubai. We are also planning to invite few more dignitaries for this session. This is the first such initiative, which will enable the participants to have an exchange of views with Mr. Patankar and to share his experience.  This is to request  the Professionals, Businessmen, Entrepreneurs and Executives of Maharashtrian origin to make it convenient to attend this event and network with the peers in the industry.  This would be particularly relevant and beneficial to all those who have significant business interest in the GCC/ UAE and India.
